NSW and QLD Owner Builder Course Resources

Hi Owner Builder Course Students,

We are working on an update to each of our resources that we make available free to our owner builder students.

Some of these resources are custom built by us, others are copied from the various state or territory regulatory bodies and are provided to make access simpler and more efficient.

With all of the third party resources we provide access to, they come with the rider that our owner builder course students must check and verify they are the latest and current versions that presents the most up to date information.

Recently there have been some changes to Home Warranty Insurance and this is always a very contentious issue so we look forward to being able to provide an update to this very soon.

In respect to our custom built templates, registers, schedules etc, we realise they are getting a bit long in the tooth and intend to refresh the look and feel of each of these items in the coming few months.

Each resource will be supported by a video tutorial which will guide our owner builder students through the process of using the forms and applying them practically.

The Queensland Building and Construction Commission has a range of contracts which cover every type of project or undertaking that an owner builder may reasonably expect to be involved with. We are working on a set of supporting video tutorials to help our owner builders understand the use of the contracts, which contract to select and how to administer works using the contract as the basis of a management system.

As we have included in previous posts, the QBCC contracts are specifically drawn for works in Queensland. This does not in our opinion render them not applicable to any other state or territory.

Owner Builder course students in New South Wales should consult the website of the Department of Fair Trading to look for the differences and apply them to the use of the contract forms.

That's all for now, but as always,

Happy Building,

Rick

It appears QLD is way out in front with available material. Will go to Dept of Fair Trading site & have a look around.

Hi Peter,
You are absolutely correct.
The QBCC are streets ahead of the DofFT in respect to resources.
Let me know specifically what you are looking for and we will try to assist where we can.

I am new to this BLOG.
I am unsure of how to create a blog or even communicate on one.
I am concerned about certain questions and the answers required for them.
A specific question asked on one of the assessments has left me totally confused.
Question No.33 of Assessment CPCCM1011A."
Time frame??? "You require the job to be completed IN NOT LESS THAN 3 WEEKS??
What exactly does this mean as far as time to complete the job??
I would also like you to review the answer required and explain to me how that answer is derived.
Thank you,
Hank

I gave you the wrong question number should be Q.23.
Still need to be clarified on this.

Hi Hank,
Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
The wording should be not more than three weeks
Your electrician has allowed .5 hours per point to complete the installation of GPO's in your dwelling. There are 54 points to be installed. You require the job to be completed in not greater than three weeks. Is he/she able to complete the project themselves in the time frame or will he/she need to employ help?: (multi choice)
So to work this out, 54 points at half an hour each will take 27 hours to install.
This obviously can be achieved in the time frame if you consider a 38 hour normal working week.

27 is the answer I came up with. The review said that was incorrect.

I got the same answer, Trent, and got the same response.
But, Rick has noted the error and has noted it in his reply as above.

I had an issue with question 32 in subject CPCCM1011A

The course resources had the 'brick veneer' cottage at total cost at $330000.

So I was surprised to see all the answer being in the low 200000 range...

I assumed the highest number because none of the answer offered came close to the answer I got based on a $330000 value project.

Looks like this has been fixed, the total budget is now $230 000
